Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about selling your gold & silver with Dave

What if my jewelry has stones or diamonds in it?
YES — all stones are included in the weight of the item, so you get credit for them. Diamonds add extra value based on their individual size and quality. Note: I do NOT buy loose stones — they must be mounted in gold or silver jewelry.
Do you buy silver jewelry?
YES. I buy sterling silver jewelry. Keep in mind that silver is worth significantly less than gold — in small amounts, it may not be worth sending alone. But if you're sending gold items too, toss in the silver!
What about silverware and flatware?
YES, with pre-approval. Look on the back of a spoon or fork where the manufacturer's name is. If it says "Sterling" somewhere, it's something I buy. Text or email me a pic first, and once I give you the OK, you can send it. If you have more than what fits in the kit, let me know and I'll tell you what to do.
Do you buy coins?
YES, but only certain ones. I buy United States dimes, quarters, half dollars, and dollar coins that are 1964 and older. No pennies, no nickels, no gold-colored Sacajawea or presidential dollar coins (those aren't real gold or silver). If you aren't sure, text me some pics and I can help you sort it out.
Do you buy platinum?
YES. Look for "PT", "PLAT", or "950" stamps on the piece.
Do you buy gold teeth, crowns, or dental gold?
YES. As long as the metal is yellow in color, I buy dental gold — crowns, bridges, implants. Don't worry if it still has some tooth material attached. I handle that.
Do you buy watches?
Only if they are gold or silver. Check the back of the watch body and the clasp — it will say what the metal is.
Do you buy pearls?
No — I don't buy strands of pearls. However, I will buy the clasp if it's gold or silver.
Do you buy foreign coins?
No — I buy Krugerrands, Canadian Maple Leafs, and other foreign bullion coins, but I don't buy random coins from vacations or travel.
How do I know if my items are real gold?
A magnet test is a great first step — real gold and silver are NOT magnetic. If a magnet sticks to it, it's not real gold. It's not a conclusive test, but it helps weed out a lot. When in doubt, send it in and I'll sort it out for you — that's my job!
Does it need to be clean? What if it's broken or tangled?
Dirty, broken, tangled, ugly, burned, smashed, new, old — doesn't matter. I buy them all. Don't waste time cleaning or untangling anything. Just send it as-is.
How do you pay me?
Multiple payment options:

PayPal, Venmo, Zelle — fastest (usually within minutes)
Direct Deposit — 24-48 hours depending on your bank
Check by mail — 7-10 days

You do NOT need to give me your bank information unless you choose direct deposit.
Is it safe to mail my jewelry?
Absolutely. I've been doing this for over 6 years and have shipped millions of dollars worth of jewelry without issue.

• All shipping materials are plain — no mention of "gold" or "jewelry"
• Every package insured up to $500 (additional upon request)
• Once you hand it to the post office, it's protected by the federal government
• When delivered, it's held at the post office until I personally pick it up

It's a very fine-tuned, very safe process.
What if I don't like your offer?
Everything can be returned — no charge for jewelry returns. You're never locked in. I make you an offer, and you decide.

A note about expectations: Diamond wedding rings and diamond stud earrings are often a disappointment. Retail diamond prices have roughly a 1000% markup. A ring you paid $10,000 for at retail may have a wholesale value of $1,000 or less. If you have high-value diamond pieces, please text or email me first so I can set proper expectations.
What if I send something that isn't gold or silver?
No problem. I sort everything out, take a picture, and send you a detailed explanation. You can choose to have non-qualifying items returned for free (jewelry only) or I can recycle/donate them.
Where are you located?
I'm in Cleveland, Ohio (just south of Cleveland). Everything is done through the mail, so I help customers all over the United States. Free shipping both ways!
